Pravasi Bharatiya Divas
Pravasi Bharatiya Divas is celebrated to commemorate the return of Mahatma Gandhi to India from South Africa on January 9, 1915.
● To mark this day, the tradition of celebrating Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) started in the year 2003 (New Delhi).
Since 2015, under a modified format, the PBD Convention has been held once every 2 years.
● So far 16 Pravasi Bharatiya Divas conferences have been organized.
● The 16th PBD was held in a virtual medium with the theme 'Contribution to Self-reliant India in the year 2021' during the pandemic.
● The 17th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention is being organized in Indore, Madhya Pradesh from January 8 to 10, 2023.
● The theme of the 17th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas is 'Diaspora: Reliable Partners for India's Progress in the Age of Amrit Kaal'.
● The 17th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention consists of five plenary sessions on the following topics:-
● Plenary Session I: Role of Diaspora Youth in Innovation and New Technologies.
● Plenary Session II: Role of Indian Diaspora in Promoting Indian Healthcare Eco-system in Amrit Kaal: Vision @ 2047.
● Plenary Session III: Leveraging India's Soft Power - Goodwill through Crafts, Cuisine and Creativity.
● Plenary Session IV: Enabling Global Mobility of Indian Workforce - Role of Indian Diaspora.
● Plenary Session V: Harnessing the Potential of Diaspora Women Entrepreneurs towards an Inclusive Approach to Nation Building.
27 eminent members of the Indian diaspora are being honored with the 'Pravasi Bhartiya Samman' award during the 17th PBD conference.
