Pravasi Bharatiya Divas
● Pravasi Bharatiya Divas is celebrated to commemorate the return of Mahatma Gandhi to India from South Africa on January 9, 1915.
● To mark this day, the tradition of celebrating Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) started in the year 2003 (New Delhi).
● Since 2015, under a modified format, the PBD Convention has been held once every 2 years.
● So far 16 Pravasi Bharatiya Divas conferences have been organized.
● The 16th PBD was held in a virtual medium with the theme 'Contribution to Self-reliant India in the year 2021' during the pandemic.
● The 17th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention is being organized in Indore, Madhya Pradesh from January 8 to 10, 2023.
● The theme of the 17th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas is 'Diaspora: Reliable Partners for India's Progress in the Age of Amrit Kaal'.
● The 17th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention consists of five plenary sessions on the following topics:-
● Plenary Session I: Role of Diaspora Youth in Innovation and New Technologies.
● Plenary Session II: Role of Indian Diaspora in Promoting Indian Healthcare Eco-system in Amrit Kaal: Vision @ 2047.
● Plenary Session III: Leveraging India's Soft Power - Goodwill through Crafts, Cuisine and Creativity.
● Plenary Session IV: Enabling Global Mobility of Indian Workforce - Role of Indian Diaspora.
● Plenary Session V: Harnessing the Potential of Diaspora Women Entrepreneurs towards an Inclusive Approach to Nation Building.
● 27 eminent members of the Indian diaspora are being honored with the 'Pravasi Bhartiya Samman' award during the 17th PBD conference.
