World NGO Day
● Every year on 27 February 'World NGO Day' is organized all over the world.
● The day was envisaged to spread awareness about the outstanding contribution of NGOs across the world and to honor the tireless efforts of social workers in both the public and private sectors.
● According to the NGO Darpan Portal of the Government of India, there are currently 1,60,679 active Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) in the country, working in various fields, playing an important role as facilitators, catalysts and partners in bringing social change.
● On April 17, 2010, 'World NGO Day' assumed its official status after it was formally recognized by 12 member countries of the 'IX Baltic-Sea NGO Forum'.
● The day was officially recognized in the year 2010, but for the first time in the year 2014, 'World NGO Day' was celebrated by the United Nations.
● Britain's social entrepreneur 'Marcis Liors Skadmanis' inaugurated 'World NGO Day' in the year 2014.
