⬧ The 'Father of Modern Hindi Literature' Bharatendu Harishchandra was born on September 09, 1850 in Kashi.
⬧ His personality was rich in patriotism and revolution-consciousness.
⬧ In his teenage years, he had to experience the plight of the country. Bhartendu Harishchandra was an unequaled hero of the Renaissance consciousness.
⬧ He had a close relationship with Ishwarchandra Vidyasagar, an eminent sage of Bengal and a typical hero of the Renaissance. His mind was anxious to enlighten the Hindi region with the consciousness of emancipation and the light of modernity.
⬧ To materialize his aspiration, he inspired-encouraged like-minded creators, established Tadiya Samaj, published letters and magazines, composed literature in various genres.
⬧ He took out a magazine named 'Kavivachanasudha' and worked as editor for 'Harishchandra' magazine, later it started being published under the name 'Harishchandra Chandrika'.
⬧ He published the magazine 'Bala Bodhini' for women's education.
⬧ He also translated Bengali plays, in which Dhananjay Vijay, Vidya Sundar, Pakhand Vidamban, Satya Harishchandra and Mudrarakshas etc. are prominent.
⬧ Vedic Hinsha Hinsha Na Bhavati, Shri Chandravali, Bharat Durdasha, Andher Nagari, Neel Devi etc. are his original plays.
⬧ According to Bhartendu Harishchandra's perception, in 1873 'Hindi Nai Chaal Mein Dhali' and this 'Chaal' was completely new in terms of craft and sensibility.
⬧ The journey of Hindi in Khadi Boli prose started by inspiring with ethnic sentiment, to which Bharatendu Harishchandra and his contemporary writers gave the expected pace through their practice.
⬧ The tradition of Hindi drama and essay begins with Bharatendu. The influence of Bharatendu Harishchandra can be clearly seen on his contemporaries.
⬧ He has a remarkable contribution in the development of modern Hindi prose. He not only led his contemporary writers, but also acted as a guide for later writers.

⬧ Bhartendu Harishchandra died on January 6, 1885 in Banaras.
