The Independence Day Award also termed Independence Award, Swadhinata Padak, and Swadhinata Puroskar is the highest state award given by the government of Bangladesh. Introduced in 1977, this award is bestowed upon Bangladeshi citizens or organizations in recognition of substantial contribution to one of many fields, including the War of Liberation, the Language Movement, education, literature, journalism, public service, science and technology, medical science, social science, song, games and sports, fine arts, rural development, and other areas.
The Bir Sreshtho (The Most Valiant Hero), is the highest military award of Bangladesh. It was awarded to seven freedom fighters who showed utmost bravery and died in action for their nation. They are considered martyrs.
The other three gallantry awards are named, in decreasing order of importance, Bir Uttom, Bir Bikram and Bir Protik. All of these awards were introduced immediately after the Liberation War in 1971.
Sri Lankabhimanya is the highest national honour of Sri Lanka awarded by the President of Sri Lanka on behalf of the Government. It is the highest civil honour and is conferred upon "those who have rendered exceptionally outstanding and most distinguished service to the nation". The honour can only be held by five Sri Lankans contemporaneously, and may also be conferred posthumously. The honour is conventionally used as a title or prefix to the name of the person who receives the award. To date, it has only been awarded eight times, since 1986. Currently, A. T. Ariyaratne and Lester James Peries hold the honour. The title is also referred to as Lankabhimanya (Pride of Lanka).
The National Award for Best Feature Film is one of the categories in the National Film Awards presented annually by the Directorate of Film Festivals, the organization set up by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in India. It is one of the several awards presented for feature films and awarded with the Golden Lotus (Swarna Kamal). The award is announced for films produced in a year across the country, in all Indian languages. As of 2016, the award comprises a Swarna Kamal, a certificate, and a cash prize of ? 2,50,000 and is presented to the producer and the director of the film.
Total sixty-four feature films have been awarded which are made in twelve different languages: Bengali (twenty-two), Hindi (fourteen), Malayalam (eleven), Kannada (six), Marathi (five), English (three), Sanskrit and Tamil (two each), Assamese, Beary, Gujarati, and Telugu (one each).
The Param Vir Chakra (PVC) is India's highest military decoration awarded for the displaying distinguished acts of valour during wartime. The name of the award translates as the "Wheel of the Ultimate Brave". PVC is equivalent to the Medal of Honor in the United States and the Victoria Cross in the United Kingdom.
